The History

Centuries ago, the seas crashed through what is now Arkansas, carving out very unusual rock formations for this part of the country. Fast forward to 1885, around the time of Eureka Springs’ founding, Pivot Rock was discovered by settlers and was a must-see natural wonder from folks near and far!

Not long before its discovery, legend is Jesse James and the James-Younger Gang hid in the caves on this land. Less than a few years after the gang disbanded, settlers began flocking by the carriage load to Eureka Springs for the healing waters, beautiful sights, and natural attractions.

Corn Cob Jelly helped Pivot Rock cement its popularity in the 1920s, bringing in hundreds of people from the tri-state area for this homemade jarred delicacy, and to see the rock formations!

(Look for Corn Cob Jelly in the Pivot Rock shop soon!)

Also a favorite curiosity of Robert Ripley in the 30’s and 40’s, Pivot Rock has been featured in Ripley’s Believe It or Not 5 times, the latest being in 2021!
